(Judge) John Black, Born In Scotland On March 11,1817, Died In Scotland In1879). He Came To Red River In 1839, Entered The Service Of The Hudson'S Bay Company As A Clerk And Retired From The Company In 1852 As A Chief Trader. He Spent The Next Ten Years In Australia And Scotland. On July 3, 1845 He Married Margaret Christie, A Daughter Of Alexander Christie Who Served For Two Terms As Governor Of Assiniboia. In 1862 He Was Appointed Recorder Of Rupert'S Land A Position He Held Until Manitoba Became A Province In 1870. Black Was A Member Of The Delegation Sent By The Red River Settlers To Negotiate With The Canadian Government In 1870. Recorder And Chief Trader. |
